2007 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly and Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service of the Clock Spring Assembly and Clock Spring must begin with complete understanding of the provided precautions. Old into the negative terminal end first detach the cable leaving it there for 90 seconds to deactivate Air Bags. Start by facing the front wheels in a straight direction before removing the steering pad and steering wheel assembly and steering column cover using the 3 screws located on the lower cover. Use caution when disconnecting the connectors joining the clock spring because the Air Bag wire harness is prone to damage. Users should detach the 3 claws to take out the clock spring. The front wheels need to be perfectly aligned before setting the neutral turn signal position to prevent leaving the pin broken. The installation requires use of 3 claws to fit the clock spring correctly and removal of the lock pin for changes. Reconnect all connectors by taking proper precautions with the Air Bag wire harness. Secure both the upper and lower covers of the assembly with their 3 respective screws. Adjust the clock spring after unplugging the car battery and switching off the ignition switch and waiting at least 90 seconds until starting the adjustment. Use counterclockwise rotation on the clock spring until it becomes secure and then perform clockwise turns up to 2.5 rotations to match the marks but keep away from the Air Bag harness. To complete the installation you must reinstall the steering wheel assembly followed by the steering pad and reconnect the negative battery terminal then check the steering pad before performing system initialization according to requirements before inspecting the SRS warning light.
