Installation of the clock spring starts by setting the front wheels in a straight direction and positioning the turn signal switch to neutral to stop the pin from breaking. The installation of the clock spring requires use of all 3 claws but removing the lock pin becomes important when replacing the entire wheel assembly. The clock spring connectors should be joined to their designated spot on the cable but special attention must be given to the Air Bag wire harness to avoid any damage. Before attaching the steering column upper cover be attentive to potential scratches and cracks that might be present on both connectors and clock spring. Position the steering column lower cover on its place and secure it with 3 screws. Begin clock spring adjustment when the ignition switch is off and negative (-) terminal battery removal takes effect along with minimum 90-second wait time before start. Gently rotate the clock spring downwards by hand until it reaches the right tension before rotating it 2.5 times counterclockwise to achieve mark alignment without contacting the Air Bag wire harness. Both directions from the center will require the clock spring to rotate by 2.5 turns. Mount the steering wheel assembly first before installing the steering pad and then attach the cable to the negative battery terminal. Steering pad inspectors should also perform system initialization steps if the battery cable separation leads to system requirements. The SRS warning light needs to be checked for correct operation as the last step.

The front wheel alignment and neutral position of the turn signal switch ensure the pin does not snap during clock spring installation. Attach the clock spring by using the 3 claws while you should remove the lock pin when changing to a new cable for steering wheel installation. When attaching the connectors to the clock spring users need to maintain caution against damaging the Air Bag wire harness during Air Bag connector handling before covering the steering column with the upper component. Users should avoid scratching or cracking the connector or disturbing the clock spring. The installation of the steering column lower cover requires three screws for attachment. The procedure to adjust the clock spring requires an off position of the ignition switch and disconnected negative (-) battery terminal and a waiting period of at least ninety seconds. Slowly rotate the clock spring counterclockwise until firm and proceed to rotate it clockwise 2.5 times while avoiding contact with the Air Bag wire harness. From the center the clock spring will rotate by 2.5 turns to both directions. You should first install the steering wheel assembly before you put on the steering pad then complete the connection to the negative battery terminal. A thorough inspection should be done for the steering pad followed by initialization steps because some systems need these procedures during negative battery terminal cable removal. Perform a full test of the SRS warning light to check its operations.

Ensure to read the precautions thoroughly.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait for 90 seconds.

Replace it with a new one.

Install the steering wheel assembly, steering pad, reconnect the negative battery terminal, inspect the steering pad, perform initialization if required, and check the SRS warning light.

Disconnect the airbag connector and the connector from the spiral cable sub-assembly, then release the 3 claws to remove it.

Ensure the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

Confirm the front wheels are still straight ahead and set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.

Disengage the 3 claws to remove the spiral cable.
