2007 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on 2007 Toyota Camry?
A: The service and repair of the thermostat requires the removal of front wheel opening extension pads and engine under covers from both left and right sides. The first step involves emptying engine coolant fluid and removing the radiator hose outlet. First disconnect the water inlet by removing its 2 nuts followed by detaching it from the cylinder block and then remove the thermostat along with its gasket. The valve opening temperature of the thermostat should be set between 80 to 84 degrees Celsius (176 to 183 degrees Fahrenheit) because an incorrect temperature indicates the thermostat needs replacement. The valve lift measurement should verify at least 10 mm (0.39 inch) when the temperature reaches 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit) and the valve should close completely when the temperature remains below 77 degrees Celsius (171 degrees Fahrenheit). Exchange the thermostat if these requirements are not fulfilled during the inspection process. Install the new gasket onto the thermostat first before you install it with the jiggle valve facing upward while keeping a 10 degrees variation in mind. The water inlet requires reinstallation using torque of 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) on the 2 nuts while reconnecting the radiator hose outlet before adding engine coolant to check for any leaks. Install the engine under covers together with both front wheel opening extension pads before completing installation.
