2006 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front Wheel Hub on 2006 Toyota Tundra?
A: Start the front axle hub servicing and repairs by taking apart all parts. Start by inserting the axle hub into a soft-jaw vise while it holds the hub bolts loosely before removing the grease cap using a screwdriver. You should also remove the oil seal (internal) inside 4WD axle hubs using a screwdriver tool. To separate the components of a 2WD hub, use a chisel with a hammer to unstake the lock nut while being cautious of the bushing before removing it with Special Service Tool: 09318-12010 and extracting the ABS speed sensor rotor/spacer without damaging the serration pattern on the speed sensor rotor. Remove the steering knuckle dust cover until it faces the hub side next to the 4 bolts that you must take out to achieve separation between the axle hub and the knuckle. Then you can proceed with using Special Service Tool: 09710-30021 (09710-03051), 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04031, 09957-04010, 09958-04011) to detach the two components before dust cover removal. To remove the bearing spacer and ABS speed sensor rotor from 4WD models it is important to handle the serration of the speed sensor rotor with caution. The screwdriver is used to pull out the oil seal that is located on the outside of the steering knuckle. Use snap ring pliers for snap ring removal before employing Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) together with a press to extract the bearing from the steering knuckle.
