2006 Toyota Tundra Brake Pad Set Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front Brake Pad Set on 2006 Toyota Tundra?
A: The procedure starts by removing the front wheel and measuring pad lining thickness which must exceed 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) but replacement is necessary whenever the specification is not met. Start by uninstalling the clip and 2 pins along with the anti-rattle spring then take out the 2 pads and 4 anti-squeal shims keeping in mind you could reuse the anti-rattle spring and clip when they remain in good condition free of rust and debris. Measuring the disc for runout and thickness comes first before pad installation while new pads should receive their anti-squeal shims. Tape your monkey wrench handle and use it to push brake fluid through the piston opening; you should do this work on one wheel at a time to stop the opposite piston from bursting out. In case pushing the piston becomes challenging, loosen the bleeder plug to let out some brake fluid. The process requires applying disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims after which the shims should be put onto new pads but the grease must not reach the pad's rubbing surface. The procedure for pad replacement requires first reinstalling the clip followed by the 2 pins and anti-rattle spring before replacing the front wheel with proper torque set to 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Check that the maximum fluid line matches before finishing up by pressing the brake pedal various times.
