2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Engine coolant needs draining as the first step to service the thermostat. The procedure starts with removing the water inlet which requires bolt removal along with two nuts and subsequent detachment of the water inlet before removing its gasket from the timing chain cover. The next step requires extraction of the thermostat from the timing chain cover position. A new gasket needs to be placed onto the thermostat prior to installation with the jiggle valve set vertically upward but the valve position can vary by approximately 100 degrees from its recommended spot. Begin by placing a new gasket and water inlet where the bolt should be tightened with 2 nuts to reach a torque value of 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). The last step is to add engine coolant while performing a check for coolant leaks from the system.
