2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the radiator on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable before proceeding to disconnect the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly through the removal of its 4 bolts. The first step requires engineers to drain engine coolant fluids and disconnect nine seal LH clips from the radiator support to frame seal. Start by removing the fan shroud when you have loosened its 4 nuts and removed the fan and generator V belt followed by disconnecting the radiator reserve tank hose and oil cooler inlet and outlet hoses (for Automatic Transmission) before taking out the fan shroud and fan with fluid coupling together while ensuring that the radiator does not get in their way. Usage of the following procedure must happen for radiator removal: take off the fan pulley and disconnect the radiator hose inlet and its second hose along with the oil cooler inlet and outlet connectors by removing the 4 bolts. Installation starts with radiator bolt installation using 18 Nm torque under 184 kgf-cm (13 ft. lbs.) before threading in the oil cooler inlet and outlet hoses (Automatic Transmission) followed by radiator hose No. 2 and radiator hose inlet. The installation process begins with positioning the fan pulley then adding the fan shroud and fan with fluid coupling in unison with the requirement of no contact to the radiator. Establish temporary placement of the fan with fluid coupling through the 4 nuts and utilize the 2 bolts torqued to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). The oil cooler hoses for Automatic Transmission will connect to the fan shroud followed by radiator reserve tank hose installation on the radiator while using the fan generator V belt with proper 4-nut tightness up to 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.). After installing the 9 clips on the radiator support to frame seal LH you must reconnect the negative battery cable then torque it to 3.9 Nm before adding engine coolant and inspecting for leakage and ending with engine under cover sub-assembly No. 1 installation for Pre Runner and 4WD Type at a torque of 30 Nm.
