2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an A/C Condenser in a refrigeration system on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The condenser requires a two-step installation process that starts with discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system followed by negative cable battery terminal cable detachment. Engine coolant drainage must occur for both 2TR-FE and 1GR-FE after removing their radiator grille, radiator support to frame seal LH for both engine types and the fan shroud for both engine types. After both 2TR-FE and 1GR-FE radiator assemblies must be removed. To proceed with the discharge hose sub-assembly disassembly you should remove the bolt along with the seal washer and then use vinyl tape to cover and seal each opening while maintaining moisture and foreign matter prevention. Follow the same procedure to disconnect the air conditioning tube assembly while applying vinyl tape for sealing the tube openings. The customer should remove the cooler condenser assembly through the process of unbolting the unit and lifting it up which disconnects the condenser lower bracket fittings before taking off the upper and lower brackets LH and RH with a screwdriver that requires tape around the tip. Before installing a new condenser you must introduce 40 cc (1.4 fl.oz.) of compressor oil (RL-897 or equivalent) to the condenser. To install the condenser position the claws on upper and lower brackets LH and RH then lift it from the rear side while securing it with 2 bolts at 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf) torque. To install the air conditioning tube assembly you must first remove vinyl tape then apply compressor oil to a new seal washer before fastening it with a bolt secured to 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). The discharge hose sub-assembly requires the same installation method until achieving 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) torque. Reinstallation of the radiator assembly must occur together with the fan shroud and the radiator support to frame seal LH for both engine types and lastly the radiator grille. The negative battery terminal receives the cable connection after torquing it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) while checking for leakage during the addition of engine coolant for both 2TR-FE and 1GR-FE systems. As the final step you must charge the refrigerant before warming up the engine to verify the existence of refrigerant leakages.
