- Q: How to service and repair the parking brake cable on 2006 Toyota Sienna?A: The parking brake cable service requires first removing the rear wheel followed by taking out either the rear brake drum sub-assembly for drums or the rear disc type assembly. Drum type requires front and rear brake shoe removal whereas disc type demands separation of rear disc brake caliper assembly LH and taking out parking brake shoe assemblies LH No. 1 and No. 2, parking brake shoe adjusting screw set, and strut. The next procedure consists of disconnecting parking brake cable assembly No. 3 by removing 2 bolts from the backing plate and 3 bolts and button from the body then disconnecting it from the parking brake equalizer before removing the LH guide. To install the component place the LH guide onto parking brake cable assembly No. 3 before connecting it to the equalizer by tightening 3 bolts with the button. The torque values must be Bolt (A) 5.4 Nm and Bolt (B) 8 Nm. Install parking brake cable assembly No. 3 to the backing plate through 2 corresponding bolts while tightening them to 8 Nm torque. Use drum-type high-temperature grease to install the rear brake shoes before checking the rear drum brake installation then install the rear brake drum sub-assembly with proper adjustment of rear drum brake shoe clearance while performing a parking brake pedal travel inspection. The installation procedure for high-temperature grease requires parking brake shoe assembly LH No. 2 along with the adjusting screw set and strut before placing parking brake shoe assembly LH No. 1 to check installation before adding the rear disc while adjusting parking brake shoe clearance. The service procedure requires the installation of the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH followed by attaching the rear wheel and torque application to 103 Nm before adjusting the parking brake pedal travel.
