- Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable Assembly No. 3 on 2005 Toyota Sienna?A: Start the replacement process of Parking Brake Cable Assembly No.3 by first stripping off the rear wheel alongside both the rear brake drum sub-assembly (drum rear brake type) and the front brake shoe and rear brake shoe assemblies (both drum rear brake type). Special Service Tools 09718-00010, 09703-30010, and 09718-00010 will be needed for separating the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH (disc rear brake type) before disc removal. Begin by extracting the parking brake shoe assembly LH No.1 followed by its adjusting screw set and continuing to the parking brake shoe strut LH before ending with the extraction of parking brake shoe assembly LH No.2. The parking brake cable assembly No.3 requires removal of its 2 bolts before disconnecting it from the backing plate. Usage begins with removing three bolts and disengaging the button to separate the parking brake cable No.3 from its body attachment before removing the cable from the parking brake equalizer and the LH guide of the parking brake cable. Insert the parking brake cable LH guide to the assembly No.3 and join it to the cable equalizer through the button and three bolts with Bolt (A) reaching a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) and Bolt (B) retaining 8 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Position the parking brake cable assembly No.3 onto the backing plate by securing it through 2 bolts which should be tightened to 8 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). High-temperature grease should be applied to drum rear brake type elements before installing the brake shoes from front to rear. The technician must check the rear drum brake installation followed by rear brake drum sub-assembly installation and complete the adjustment of the rear drum brake shoe clearance. Workers should inspect parking brake pedal travel before adjusting it while applying high-temperature grease to disc rear brake type components. The technician must install the parking brake shoe assembly LH No.2 and its adjusting screw set and parking brake shoe strut LH and parking brake shoe assembly LH No.1 while also verifying proper parking brake operation. The last step of the procedure includes installing the rear disc followed by parking brake shoe clearance adjustment and attachment of the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH before installing the rear wheel with a torque of 103 Nm(1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The technician must inspect and if needed adjust the parking brake pedal's travel parameter.
