2006 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: You should begin servicing or repairing the engine rear oil seal by taking out the automatic transaxle assembly whenever you have 2WD or the automatic transmission with transfer for 4WD. The next step involves using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to sustain the crankshaft so technicians can remove eight bolts and the rear spacer followed by the drive plate and the front spacer. The process of removing the engine rear oil seal begins by cutting off the oil seal lip with a knife followed by prying out the oil seal using a tape-wrapped screwdriver. Smoothen any rough areas on the crankshaft with 400-grit sandpaper after its removal. Apply MP grease to the lip of a new oil seal after inspecting it for foreign materials and then use Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a hammer to tap the oil seal until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge while avoiding a slanting tap direction before wiping off excessive grease. Reinstall the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly by using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft while cleaning bolts and bolt holes and using adhesive (Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent) on 2 or 3 bolt threads before placing the front spacer, drive plate, and rear spacer on the crankshaft. Follow these steps to install the drive plate which includes applying adhesive and torqueing 8 bolts uniformly in their specified sequence to 83 Nm (846 kgf-cm, 61 ft. lbs.). Start the engine no earlier than one hour after completion. You should finish the process by reattaching either the automatic transmission with transfer for vehicles that have 4WD or the automatic transaxle assembly for vehicles that have 2WD.
