2005 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Toyota Sienna?
A: The replacement process of engine rear oil seal begins by removing the automatic transaxle assembly for 2WD drive type or the automatic transmission with transfer for 4WD drive type. You should hold the crankshaft using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 before removing the 8 bolts and unlocking the rear spacer and drive plate and front spacer. Remove the oil seal by cutting off its lip with a knife then using a taped screwdriver to pry it out before checking for crankshaft damage but apply 400-grit sandpaper to smooth the surface if damage occurs. The installation process requires applying MP grease to the lip while protecting it from foreign materials followed by using Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a hammer to tap the oil seal into place until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge but avoid tapping it in a slanted direction and wiping off any excess grease that remains on the crankshaft. Reinstall the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly through crankshaft usage of Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 after cleaning bolts and bolt holes while applying adhesive (Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent) to 2 or 3 threads of the bolts. You must evenly tighten the eight bolts in this sequence to 83 Nm (846 kgf-cm, 61 ft. lbs.) until complete installation and wait at least one hour before starting the engine. The automatic transmission with 4WD transfer should be reinstalled or the automatic transaxle assembly for 2WD drive type needs to be installed.
