2006 Toyota Sienna Camshaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the RH camshaft on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: You should start to service the RH camshaft by draining coolant then removing essential components including front wheel, wiper arms, cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and wiper link assembly and several covers and components including V-bank cover, air cleaner cap, emission control valve set, intake air surge tank, ignition coil assembly and cylinder head cover. Begin the procedure by taking away the front fender apron seal together with belts, engine mounting components and timing belt covers until you can access the timing belt and camshaft timing pulleys utilizing Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) and 09249-63010. When removing the camshaft it should stay level to avoid damage and users should align timing marks and fasten the exhaust camshaft sub-gear with a service bolt tightened to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). The technician should carefully extract the camshaft together with the No. 2 camshaft by sequentially loosening the bearing cap bolts which must be done without damaging the cylinder head. The procedure requires clamp placement on the camshaft followed by lock nut removal with a 46 mm socket wrench that must have its lock pin in place. Tighten the assembly of camshaft sub-gear and timing gear with engine oil on the lock nut to 150 Nm (1,530 kgf-cm, 111 ft. lbs.). During the installation of the No. 2 camshaft use fresh engine oil on both the thrust portion and journal then align the oil seal via seal packing (Part No. 08826-00080 equivalent) into the No. 1 bearing cap. Fitting the main camshaft requires bearing cap bolt torque application of 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.). Install all timing belt covers and camshaft timing pulleys and other components following sequential order while using appropriate torque values that require 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm) for the timing belt idler sub-assembly. The valve clearance needs inspection before cylinder head cover installation with ignition coil assembly and intake air surge tank together with other components and hose reinstallation and adding coolant during leak verification.
