2006 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the rear Brake Line on 2006 Toyota RAV4?
A: Service of the rear flexible brake hose begins by removing the rear wheel followed by draining the brake fluid and raising off the fluid when it touches painted surfaces. Utilize Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect brake tube (A) from the flexible hose but keep holding the hose with a wrench while maintaining both components straight and avoiding damage to the tubes and foreign substance entry. First remove clip (labeled B), following by union bolt removal together with gasket(s) to let go of the flexible hose from the disc brake cylinder. The indicated contact surfaces of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly require Multemp SI-B silicon grease before installation with two bolts which must be tightened to 26.5 Nm (270 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.). Attach the rear flexible hose to new gaskets and a union bolt before torquing it to 30.4 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) while checking the flexible hose lock is properly locked into the cylinder's hole. First add brake fluid to the reservoir and remove air through the brake master cylinder and brake line and ABS and traction system elements before checking the fluid level and inspecting for leakage. Complete the wheel reinstallation by tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm) followed by 76 ft. lbs. torque. The installation process includes attaching the rear brake tube flexible hose to the disc brake cylinder with new gasket(s) and the union bolt and torquing them to 30.4 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Subsequently attach a new clip (labeled B). Special Service Tool 09023-00101 enables you to connect the flexible hose to brake tube A while manually maintaining the hose with a wrench and applying 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque without the tool or 14 Nm (144 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) with tool using a torque wrench at 30cm (11.81 inches) fulcrum length. The installation requires maintaining the brake tube straight to prevent damage and guarding against entry of foreign objects into the tube.
