2006 Toyota Highlander Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Rack And Pinion on 2006 Toyota Highlander?
A: A proper rack and pinion servicing procedure starts with examining the center front wheel prior to taking out the front wheel. Apply Special Service Tool 09628-62011 on tie rod assembly LH before conducting the same steps on tie rod assembly RH. The seat belt should fasten the rack and pinion in place to stop its rotation and protect the spiral cable from harm. First remove the clamp from the rack and pinion hole cover No. 1 by removing bolt A then disconnect cover No. 2 from cover No. 1. Bolt B needs loosening and matchmarks should be placed on both the rack and pinion intermediate shaft subassembly and rack and pinion link assembly before removing the bolt to detach the rack and pinion intermediate shaft sub-assembly. Start separating the LH front stabilizer link assembly and execute the same process for RH front stabilizer link assembly. Detach the front stabilizer bracket No. 1 LH by removing 2 bolts followed by the stabilizer bracket No. 1 LH and stabilizer bracket No. 2 and finally take the stabilizer bar bush No. 1 off the stabilizer bar. Perform the same procedure to disconnect the front stabilizer bracket No. 1 RH. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 to disconnect the return tube assembly from the rack and pinion link assembly after first removing the tube clamp from the pressure feed tube assembly. After disconnection the tool allows removal of the nut along with the return tube clamp. The procedure ends by disconnecting the pressure feed tube assembly with Special Service Tool: 09023-12701, before removing the bolt and pressure feed tube clamp. Then use the 2 bolts and nuts to extract the power steering link assembly.
