2006 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the Rack And Pinion and complete the associated procedures on 2006 Toyota Highlander?
A: The power steering link assembly needs to be tightened with two bolts and nuts at 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.). Use Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 to attach the pressure feed tube assembly to the rack and pinion while applying torque at 22 Nm (230 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.). Then install the pressure feed tube clamp by tightening its bolt to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 inch lbs.). You must install the return tube assembly to the rack and pinion using the specific tool and applying 22 Nm (230 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.), then install the tube clamp to the pressure feed tube assembly followed by the return tube clamp with the nut at 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 inch lbs.). Adopt stabilizer bar bush No. 1 to the stabilizer bar before using 2 bolts to connect stabilizer bracket No. 1 LH and stabilizer bracket No. 2 with a torque specification of 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.). Perform the same process on the right-hand front stabilizer bracket No. 1. Connect both front stabilizer link assemblies using the exact procedure applied earlier to the LH part. After aligning the matchmarks between the steering intermediate shaft subassembly and rack and pinion install both bolts at 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft. lbs.) and secure the steering column hole cover No. 2 to the steering hole cover No. 1 by tightening bolt B and using a clamp. The tie rod assemblies LH and RH should be connected using the same procedure followed for the LH and both assemblies should be finally fitted with front wheels torqued at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). End the power steering fluid bleeding process while checking fluid leaks before examining front wheel alignment and carrying out steering angle sensor zero point calibration along with investigating the steering wheel center point.
