2006 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the FRONT CONTROL ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: The procedure to replace the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH includes removing the front wheel followed by disconnecting the FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH and RH. The separation of the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH involves removing the bolt with 2 nuts that secure the lower ball joint assembly front LH. The replacement process should also include the RH side. Proceed with rack & pinion power steering gear assembly removal through the process of loosening 4 bolts and suspending the assembly while always loosening the bolt because nut rotation is not possible. The engine suspension requires you to disconnect the transverse engine mounting insulator and engine mounting member sub-assembly center followed by dissolving 4 bolts then lowering the transmission jack. Lunings should remove the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH through a procedure which includes removal of two bolts and one nut. Secure the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH with two bolts and a nut but do not fully tighten it. The front suspension crossmember sub-assembly installation requires Special Service Tool: 09670-00010 which is inserted into base holes while the bolts must be tightened in the specified order reaching a torque of 157 Nm (1,601 kgf-cm, 116 ft. lbs.) for Bolt A and 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.) for Bolt B. Connect the transverse engine mounting insulator and engine mounting member sub-assembly center to the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly through 3 bolts and 3 nuts which require 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) torque. The rack & pinion power steering gear assembly requires 4 bolts with torques at 58 Nm (591 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.) before installing the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH with 2 nuts and a bolt at 89 Nm (908 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.). Repeal the steps for the RIGHT HAND SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION. First install FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH and RH then fit the front wheel before lowering the vehicle to complete bolt tightening that requires 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The vehicle should be bounced until suspension stability is achieved before tightening the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH at 137 Nm (1,397 kgf-cm, 101 ft. lbs.) using its 2 bolts and a nut. The bolt requires full tightening because the nut is unrotateable followed by wheel alignment inspection.
