- Q: How to replace the knock sensor on 2006 Toyota Camry?A: The first step for knock sensor replacement requires engine coolant drainage before removing the air cleaner cap together with the air cleaner hose. You must disconnect the throttle body along with the intake manifold by removing 5 bolts and the 2 nuts. Afterward remove both the intake manifold and gasket. To change out the knock sensor start by disconnecting its connector before removing and unthreading the retaining nut. First fasten the new knock sensor with the nut while applying 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque and then connect the knock sensor connector. Use new gaskets when installing the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts where torque reaches 30 N.m (306 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf). You should replace the throttle body assembly then reinstall it together with the air cleaner cap and the air cleaner hose. Check the vacuum hose connections before adding engine coolant then verify there are no engine coolant leaks.
