2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a Vapor Canister on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: Before starting the replacement of the charcoal canister assembly users must disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and prevent gasoline from leaking. First drain the fuel then detach the fuel pump tube sub-assembly and the rear floor service hole cover and the rear seat cushion assembly. The exhaust pipe assembly center requires removal before performing the service on parking brake cable assembly No.2 and No.3 followed by removing the fuel tank assembly and charcoal canister assembly. The fuel tank vent hose needs to be disconnected from the charcoal canister by pushing the connector deep into place while pinching portion A before pulling out the connector. The installation procedure begins with deconnecting the vapor pressure sensor connector after which the wire harness clamp follows this step accompanied by a purge line hose from the charcoal canister. The next step requires the removal of 2 bolts, clip, and charcoal canister through the same method as disconnection. The installation process begins by inserting the 2 bolts and clip together with the charcoal canister assembly before torquing them to 36 N.m (367 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf). In the installation steps, first join the purge line hose to the charcoal canister followed by attachment of the wire harness clamp and vapor pressure sensor connector then the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly and finally the fuel tank vent hose to the charcoal canister. First install the fuel tank assembly before moving onto the sequence of installing parking brake cables in order No.3 then No.2 followed by placement of the exhaust pipe assembly center point then fuel pump tube sub-assembly connection. After fuel addition and restoring the battery cable to the negative terminal check for both fuel and exhaust gas leakage. The last steps involve placing the rear floor service hole cover together with the rear seat cushion assembly before system initialization because certain systems require this step after disconnecting the battery.
