- Q: How to service the rear wiper motor on 2006 Scion xB?A: A proper rear wiper motor service requires disconnecting the battery negative cable while waiting 90 seconds to avoid activating the Air Bags and seat belt pretensioners. The back door trim board must come off before you detach the rear wiper arm and blade assembly through opening the cover and removing the nut. The first step for servicing the rear wiper motor includes detaching the connector then removing its 3 mounting bolts. You should connect the 3 bolts to the rear wiper motor assembly with 5.4 Nm torque (55 kgf-cm or 47 in.-lbf) before reconnecting the connector for installation. Install the rear wiper motor grommet according to the diagram before mounting the rear wiper arm together with blade assembly. The wiper operative should activate the automatic stop position first then file off wiper arm serrations and brush clean the wiper pivot before threading the wiper arm through which the operative torques to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 47 in.-lbf). Use water from the washer fluid to operate the wiper while maintaining pressure on the arm hinge until you finish fastening the nut. This step allows a wiping test for proper function as well as a confirmation that the wiper clears the vehicle body structure. To finish the back door trim installation process you should place the back door trim board in position and connect the cable terminal to the negative part of the battery.
