2006 Scion xB Thermostat Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Scion xB?
A: Service operations for the thermostat need to begin by draining engine coolant. The first step for servicing the thermostat includes removing the water inlet by detaching its 2 nuts and separating it from the cylinder block. Then, remove the thermostat. Install the new gasket on the thermostat before inserting it with the jiggle valve pointing upward at a 10 degrees orientation relative to each side as marked by symbols. Fasten the water inlet back to the cylinder block by using its 2 nuts with 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) torque but check for gasket placement between the water inlet and cylinder block. To finish the replacement process add engine coolant and inspect for any leakages.
