2006 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Speed Sensor on 2006 Scion xB?
A: Start servicing the skid control sensor by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal then waiting 90 seconds to avoid triggering the Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner systems. Take off the back wheel then extract the skid control sensor wire and remove its connections. Before you take out the brake drum mark its rear part and axle hub. Locate the rear axle hub and bearing assembly within the vehicle and remove it. Install the hub and bearing set into a soft-chassis vise for safekeeping and replace them immediately if they encounter shock or impact. Insert a pin punch into Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 pin holes and pound them out with a hammer to detach two pins. Then remove the two tool features that join. Take 2 bolts (12 mm in diameter with a 1.5 mm pitch) to remove the skid control sensor from the rear axle hub using tools 09520-00040 (09520-00031), 09521-00020, 09950-00020 while protecting the sensor contact surface from scratches. Clean the contact area of the hub and new sensor before placing the sensor directly onto the lowest position of the connector. Install the skid control sensor with Special Service Tool: 09214-76011 and a press to shield the detection area from direct hammer contact. Before moving ahead install the rear brake drum sub-assembly then measure the rear axle alignment. Connect the skid control wire then install the exhaust wheel using 103 N.m (1,050kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf) torque and restore power from the negative battery end after checking ABS speed sensor performance.
