2005 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Toyota Tundra?
A: Start vacuum brake booster service or repair of Standard Cab and Access Cab models by taking off the master cylinder and breaking the vacuum hose connection to the brake booster. You need to remove the scuff plate LH, cowl side trim LH, lower finish panel and No.2 heater to register duct from the vehicle. The pedal return spring as well as its clip and clevis pin must be removed first followed by disassembly of the brake booster unit using the 4 nuts and clevis while carefully pulling out the brake booster and its gasket and removing 2 stopper rings along with the brake booster bracket and gasket. Situate a new gasket on the brake booster before installing the brake booster bracket and 2 stopper rings followed by the booster with an additional gasket. Use the operating rod to attach the clevis afterward tighten the booster installation nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). After putting the clevis pin through the clevis alongside brake pedal, use the clip to secure it before reattaching the vacuum hose to the brake booster. Reinstall the No.2 heater alongside the register duct and lower finish panel which joins the cowl side trim on the left-hand side and the scuff plate. The booster push rod length adjustment requires positioning Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 on the master cylinder to allow the pin to contact the piston. After this step reverse the tool to assess the booster push rod pin head clearance which must be 0 mm (0 inch). Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 must be used to adjust booster push rod length until it makes brief contact with the pin head. The master cylinder must be reinstalled followed by brake reservoir fluid addition and brake system bleeding and fluid leakage inspection and brake pedal checks that lead to an operational test.
