2005 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front Sway Bar Kit on 2005 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The front wheel assembly needs removal first when changing the front sway bar kit on 2WD vehicles. Unfasten both front sway bar link units on the left side by removing the two nuts and two retainer springs with two foam pads. When the ball joint turns with the nut you need a six millimeter hex wrench to grip the stud. Perform the same actions for the right-hand side. Carry out these steps when working on the left-hand sway bar link assembly: deliver the ball joint stud 5 times forward and backward before fastening the nut. Tighten the nut manually using the torque wrench at a speed of 2-4 seconds per cycle and record the torque reading taken on the fifth turn that should not exceed 2.0 Nm (20 kgf-cm, 18 inch lbs.). Also examine the dust cover for any grease leaks or cracks. Unbolt the left side front sway bar bracket No.1 using two screws and do the same on the right side. Disassemble both sway bar lower bracket bushes then detach the front sway bar kit from its assembly points. Place the bush at the inner side of the bar and check it aligns to bush stopper cut line together with sway bar kit front side. Rephrase this process for the right side installation. Attach both left and right front sway bar brackets No.1 using two bolts at 21 Nm torque setting and then repeat the same steps on the opposite side. Fit the left front sway bar link system with 2 nuts, 2 cushions, 2 retainers and bolt Nut A to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.), Nut B to 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.) while gripping the stud with a hexagon wrench to avoid excessive fastening. Put the front sway bar link assembly onto the right side and connect the front wheels while tightening them to 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.).
