2005 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Power Steering Pump on 2005 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Ensure a smooth operation of the power steering vane pump for servicing by measuring its rotating torque with a torque wrench set to 0.28 Nm (2.8 kgf-cm, 2.4 inch lbs.) or less without unusual noises. A necessary step involves taking off the suction port union through bolt removal and O-ring extraction. The service begins with pressure port union bolt removal as well as flow control valve and spring removal with the O-ring from the pressure port union. Detaching the rear housing requires the removal of four bolts; gently using a plastic hammer on the wave washer and side plate helps extraction where necessary while you will need to take out the two O-rings from the rear housing. Next remove the wave washer and then take out the side plate before removing the gasket. You should remove the vane pump shaft snap ring with a screwdriver before moving on to the cam ring and 10 vane plates and vane pump rotor taking care not to drop any of the plates. The maintenance procedure concludes by removing the vane pump shaft combined with the vane pump pulley and also the 2 straight pins from the front housing.
