2005 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the timing cover or timing chain case oil seal on 2005 Toyota Highlander?
A: Replacements of the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal require initial removal of the front wheel on the right-hand side followed by removal of the front fender splash shield front RH, front fender apron seal RH, engine cover sub-assembly No.1, engine mounting stay No.2 RH, engine moving control rod w/bracket, engine mounting bracket No.2 RH, fan and generator V belt, and crankshaft pulley. The oil seal removal requires Special Service Tools: 09308-10010, 09950-60010 (09951-00200). Use Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 and a hammer to tap in the new oil seal until its surface matches the rear oil seal retainer edge while keeping the lip lubricated with MP grease and free of foreign materials. The technician must reinstall the crankshaft pulley and fan along with the generator V belt following an application of 52 Nm torque (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.). Subsequently, the engine mounting bracket No.2 RH and engine mounting stay No.2 RH get torqued to 52 Nm (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) and 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.). The last step includes installing the engine moving control rod with bracket while also reinstalling the front wheel on the right side and performing an inspection for engine oil leakage.
