2004 Toyota Highlander Timing Cover Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the timing cover or timing chain case oil seal on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: Starting the replacement process of the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal begins by removing the front wheel RH alongside the front fender splash shield front RH, front fender apron seal RH, engine cover sub-assy No.1, engine mounting stay No.2 RH, engine moving control rod with bracket, engine mounting bracket No.2 RH, fan and generator V belt, and crankshaft pulley. You must detach the existing oil seal by utilizing Special Service Tool: 09308-10010 and 09950-60010 (09951-00200). Add MP grease to the lip of a new oil seal before using Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 and a hammer to tap in the oil seal until its surface reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge. Afterwards wipe the crankshaft clean of excess grease. The crankshaft pulley and fan and generator V belt installation requires 52 Nm of torque (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.), and then engine mounting bracket No.2 RH and engine mounting stay No.2 RH receive torques of 52 Nm (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) and 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.). The last procedure involves mounting the engine moving control rod and its bracket as well as reinstalling the front wheel on the right-hand side while testing the engine for oil leaks.
