Draining coolant should be the first step before generator disassembly to connect and disconnect the water inlet nuts from the cylinder block. Replacing the thermostat requires installation of a new one with a gasket while positioning the jiggle valve in an upward direction but keeping it between 10 degrees of the recommended position on either side. Further installation requires adding coolant and performing a test for engine coolant leaks following the reinstallation of the water inlet with its 2 nuts.
