Toyota Highlander Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the thermostat on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
The first step to remove the thermostat requires cable disconnection from the battery terminal followed by required system initialization after cable reconnection. The maintenance process requires removal of the No. 1 engine under cover preceding engine coolant drainage. The V-ribbed belt and generator assembly need to be removed before continuing. The first step should involve disconnecting the No. 2 radiator hose before removing the water inlet by taking off its securing nuts. The procedure ends with taking off both the thermostat and the gasket attached to it.
  • Q: How to install the thermostat and related components on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
Place the new gasket against the thermostat before setting its jiggle valve to face upward and choose its orientation anywhere from 10 degrees to each side of the recommended positioning. Attach the water inlet with two nuts before tightening them to a torque level of 10 Nm which equals 102 kgf-cm or 7 ft-lbf. Use a bolt to join the idler pulley cover plate with the sub-assembly before tightening it to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). After mounting the V-ribbed belt put the No. 2 radiator hose to the engine. The procedures for fixing the front fender apron seal RH and front fender liner RH and front fender moulding sub-assembly RH must be repeated on both sides. Fasten the front wheel on the right side and tighten it to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). Fill the engine with coolant while inspecting for any fluid leakage. Conclude the work by placing the No. 1 engine under cover before adding the engine under cover assembly and the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
