• Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2005 Toyota Echo?

  A: The service and repair process for throttle bodies requires drain of engine coolant as the first step. Service personnel should disconnect the accelerator cable before removing the air cleaner hose and cap through bolting of the 2 clamp bolts followed by detaching the hose from the throttle body and air cleaner cap. The next step requires disconnecting the throttle position sensor connector and IAC valve connector together with PCV hose and 2 water bypass hoses to remove the throttle body. Start the process by removing the bolt along with two nuts and accelerator bracket and throttle body from the intake manifold to separate the throttle body gasket. Test the throttle valve by checking the throttle stop screw should not have space with the throttle lever when in close position, also measure the throttle position sensor with an ohmmeter by testing all terminal connections. Position first the throttle body followed by reattaching the accelerator cable bracket to its spots with the bolt and 2 nuts giving them a torque of 30 Nm (305 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf). Then assemble the 2 water bypass hoses together with the IAC valve connector and throttle position sensor connector and the PCV hose to the throttle body. Complete the procedure by reinstallation of the air cleaner hose and cap plus radiator engine coolant addition.
