2005 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Toyota Celica?
A: The process of servicing and repairing the vacuum brake booster starts with removing the front LH wheel while tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Provided service and repair of the vacuum brake booster requires discarding the master cylinder while disconnecting the vacuum hose from the brake booster. Begin by removing Special Service Tool: 09751-36011 and a spanner to disconnect the brake line from its flexible hose. Then use this tool to remove the front LH brake line accompanied by the grommet from the body. Start by uninstalling the brake booster through these steps: first remove the lower No. 1 panel along with the finish panel from the unit then remove the return spring, clip, clevis pin after which you can remove the clevis and its 4 nuts until you free the brake booster while pulling out the gasket. Install a new gasket and brake booster followed by torquing 4 nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm or 9 ft. lbs.) and then install the clevis and lock the nut to 25 Nm (260 kgf-cm or 19 ft. lbs.). After installing the clevis pin through the clevis and brake pedal the clip should be used to secure it before attaching the pedal return spring. Install the front LH brake line by inserting it with the grommet into the body to connect with the flexible hose of the front LH brake using Special Service Tool: 09751-36011 and a spanner while torquing to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Mount the ABS actuator assembly when the vehicle has ABS as an option. To measure the brake booster push rod length when replacing the brake master cylinder use an accessory tool with chalk on the tip to check the distance from the tool to the rod which must be exactly 0 mm (0 inch). Adjustments need to be made to the push rod length when the booster is devoid of vacuum while the brake pedal remains depressed to check the clearance which must fall within the specified range. Connect the vacuum hose to the brake booster after installing the master cylinder following a brake reservoir fill with brake fluid while bleeding the brake system. Inspect for fluid leakages after which you should check and adjust the brake pedal before installing the lower No. 1 panel and finish panel. Finally, perform an operational check.
