2005 Scion xA Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the floor shift Parking Brake Cable assembly (ATM) on 2005 Scion xA?
A: The replacement of the floor shift parking lock cable assembly (ATM) starts with observing air bag systems service precautions followed by separating the battery negative terminal. The repair process begins by aligning the front wheels directly ahead before removing the horn button assembly with its accompanying steering wheel assembly and steering column cover and further removal of multiple instrument panel components including finish panels and garnishes as well as assembly centers and ash receptacle assembly and instrument cover lower center and panel finish and console box components. One must rotate the adjust lock cap 90 degrees clockwise toward the vehicle front while pushing the claw to release from the shift lock release link then disengage it from the shift lever plate and detach the cable clamp. Put the shift lever in N position before unfastening the cable from its upper bracket. To structure the new floor shift parking lock cable assembly begin by turning the ignition switch to ACC or ON and link the component to the upper bracket while confirming the lever pin receives cable tension which stops at the stopper before securing the clamp. Use the shift lever to position itself at N while inserting the shift lever plate assembly and make sure to properly seat the casing cap tight. Before installing the lever pin in the cable end hole you need to keep the shift lever in N position to confirm automatic adjustment functions properly while moving the slide cap. Set the adjust lock cap to face forward at 90 degrees counterclockwise as you fit the floor shift parking lock cable into the shift lever side with the key in ACC position. The spring sliding distance for automatic adjustment should be set to 8 mm (0.31 inch). For the final step return the console box assembly rear and console box carpet and console box rear cover before placing the instrument cluster finish panel over the steering column cover while installing the steering wheel assembly properly followed by horn button assembly then reconnect the battery negative terminal lastly check the horn button assembly, SRS warning light, and key interlock operation.
