2006 Scion xA Parking Brake Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the floor shift Parking Brake Cable assembly on 2006 Scion xA?
A: Begin any replacement of the floor shift parking lock cable assembly by disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal then waiting at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag deployment. Initiate the procedure by putting the front wheels directly ahead while eliminating the steering pad and further removing the steering wheel and steering column cover followed by removing the instrument cluster finish panel with its accompanying No. 2 and No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnishes and instrument cluster finish panel assembly center and front ash receptacle alongside the instrument cover lower center and instrument panel finish panel lower center and console box rear cover and console box carpet and rear console box assembly. The floor shift parking lock cable assembly requires adjustment through clockwise 90 degrees rotation of the adjust lock cap while simultaneously pushing the claw to release the cable from the shift lock release link followed by screwdriver detachment from the shift lever plate and cable clamp removal through shifting the lever to N position before disconnecting the cable from the upper bracket. The procedure for new cable installation requires an ACC or ON position ignition switch and then the cable must be attached to the upper bracket followed by stopping the lever pin using the stopper along with cable clamp attachment before moving the shift lever to the N position and inserting the cable end rod through the shift lever plate slit and securing the casing cap in position. The cable end hole requires the lever pin insertion followed by verifying the lever's position at N and rotating the adjust lock cap counterclockwise to 90 degrees. The automatic adjustment of the spring requires its slide to measure exactly 8 mm (0.31 inch) after installation is complete. Reinstall the console box assembly followed by carpet then cover and finish panels both lower and center until you reach the front ash receptacle and center assembly and garnishes with the instrument cluster panel and steering parts which include the column cover wheel and pad. After reattaching the negative battery terminal with the cable you must examine the steering pad assembly and SRS warning light before testing key interlock function and running the initialization sequence because some systems demand this step after battery cable reconnection.
