2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield glass on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The procedure to replace the windshield glass begins with removing the inner rear view mirror assembly combined with the roof headlining assembly that requires stripping off numerous components starting with front door scuff plates and continuing through cowl side trim and front door opening trim Weather Strip before moving to front pillar garnish and then assist grip covers and assist grips and visors and visor holders and the map lamp while maintaining partial roof headlining position. Start by removing the wiper head caps together with front wiper arms and hood to cowl top seal before taking out the cowl top ventilator louver itself. The removal of windshield moulding outside requires cutting it off with a knife to protect the vehicle body structure before extracting the remaining moulding. The correct method to remove windshield glass starts by taping the body of the vehicle before wire the piano through adhesive layers between its body and glass framework. Wire handles must be secured to wire ends while match marks should be marked if the glass gets reused. Use the wired piano to cut adhesive layers and disengage stoppers before using a suction cup to gently extract the glass while keeping as much adhesive on the body. You must wash the windshield glass before cleaning with white gasoline by carefully scraping all stoppers, dams, and adhesive and avoiding touching any part of the surface during this process. The vehicle body needs both adhesive removal through cutting operations followed by application of a contact surface cleaner. Place two new stoppers on the windshield glass by applying Primer G to the installation area for three minutes before installation. The installation of two fresh stoppers to the vehicle body is required for windshield glass stopper No. 1. Use Primer G on windshield glass areas before installing the adhesive dam and maintain the excluded stopper areas. Position the windshield glass through a suction cup so that the contact area remains level before adding matchmarks to newly installed glass. Before placement of Primer M on the vehicle body apply Primer G to the contact surface on the windshield glass. Pour Part No. 08850-00801 adhesive onto the windshield glass before you cut the cartridge nozzle since this limits the amount of time for application. After aligning matchmarks position the windshield glass onto the vehicle body and apply gentle pressure to maintain a tiny gap between the surfaces before securing it with protective tape until the adhesive becomes hardened. To finish the operation apply Primer G onto the new windshield glass contact area after the installation of the new molding which must be completed before adhesive drying before conducting a leak test and using auto sealer.
