2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake booster assembly on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The first step to replace the brake booster assembly involves draining the brake fluid and then cleaning painted surfaces which contact fluid residue. Start by removing the front wiper arm head cap and both front wiper arm and blade assemblies from the left and right positions along with the hood to cowl top seal and cowl top ventilator louver from the left (LH) side. You must remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly as well as the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer and cowl water extract hose No.1. Release the cowl body mounting bracket lower (LH) together with the air cleaner cap sub-assembly while using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to complete the removal process. First detach the brake master cylinder push rod clevis before taking out the front wheel (LH) along with the front brake tube No.5 through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-00101. The brake booster assembly can be extracted when the brake tubes are unfastened from their clamps and the vacuum hose is disconnected while removing the four nuts and loosening the clevis lock nut. After removing the check valve assembly with grommet users need to install a new brake booster gasket. To install the components you must first position the check valve assembly and grommet onto the brake booster assembly and then tighten the four nuts with 12.7 Nm torque. You should next join the vacuum hose and position the push rod clevis along with clevis lock nut while adjusting brake pedal height before torquing the lock nut. Connect the front brake tube No.5 after installing its clamp and torque it to 15 Nm while making sure the grommet installation is correct. The service technician installs the front wheel (LH) with 103 Nm torque and replaces the brake master cylinder sub-assembly with 09023-00101 tool and completes the installation of the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and cowl body mounting bracket lower (LH) and the cowl water extract hose No.1 and the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer. Next connect the brake master cylinder push rod clevis while filling the reservoir with brake fluid before bleeding the master cylinder through Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 then bleeding the brake line. The technician must verify proper brake pedal height, free play, reserve distance along with brake fluid level inspection and search for brake fluid leaks. The windshield wiper motor and link assembly, cowl top ventilator louver (LH), hood to cowl top seal, both front wiper arm and blade assemblies (RH and LH) with front wiper arm head caps have to be reinstalled before inspecting the brake booster assembly.
