2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Transmission Speed Sensor on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The process to replace a Transmission Speed Sensor starts by disconnecting the battery terminal while also needing the system initialization after battery reconnection. Start by taking off the battery and proceed with removing the battery carrier along with the air cleaner assembly. Both NT and NC speed sensor connectors need to be separated before using a wrench to uninstall the sensors and remove their bolts. Start by apply ATF to the O-ring of the NC sensor before installing the sensor together with its bolt and applying 8.8 Nm torque (90 kgf-cm or 78 inch lbs.). Finally, connect the speed sensor connector. The process for completing the NT sensor installation includes ATf O-ring coating followed by bolting the sensor and final torquing to 11 Nm (115 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.) before speed sensor connector attachment. Reattach the air cleaner assembly at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.), before installing the battery carrier at 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.), and finally install the battery.
