2004 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2004 Toyota Tacoma?
A: A proper fuel injector service requires removing the air cleaner hose and intake air connector assembly followed by the fuel pressure regulator. The service also requires disconnecting the fuel inlet pipe while catching any leaking fuel in a container. You should firstly remove the fuel pipe then disconnect all the injector connectors before gently extracting the delivery pipes while removing the six injectors as you prevent any drops and stay away from applying side forces to the injectors. The procedure requires removing four bolts and delivery pipes with six injectors before pulling out the four spacers from the intake manifold followed by removing six injectors from the delivery pipes and extracting two O-rings and insulator from each injector. Placement of new insulators should be followed by oil or gasoline application to new O-rings before securing them onto each injector. The delivery pipe accepts the six injectors through an injector direction rotation that should align their connectors toward the exterior. Secure the delivery pipes with their six injectors onto the intake manifold using temporary four bolts while insuring smooth injector rotation. Visually check for proper injector movement. If any injector exhibits limited rotation, replace the O-rings. After attaching the injector connectors you should install the delivery pipes using four new gaskets in combination with two union bolts which must be tightened to 34.3 N.m (350 kgf.cm, 25 ft.lbf). Finally, torque the four bolts retaining the delivery pipes against the intake manifold to 13 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf). The fuel inlet pipe can be provisionally placed with two new gaskets and both a union bolt and bolt but requires a clamp bolt torque of 8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) at the same time as a union bolt torque of 34.3 N.m (350 kgf.cm, 25 ft.lbf). The procedure requires installation of the fuel pressure regulator and thorough examination of air assist lines to check for loose joints and sharp bends and damage before installing the intake air connector assembly along with the air cleaner hose. Inspection of fuel leaks demands following safety procedures which include never using used O-rings and protecting new O-rings from damage throughout assembly along with applying spindle oil or gasoline to new O-rings beforehand.
