2003 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2003 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Start the fuel injector servicing process by unhooking both the air cleaner hose with resonator and intake air connector and the 4 injector connectors. Begin removal of the delivery pipe and injectors by unplugging the vacuum sensing hose as well as the fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator before you remove the union bolt and both gaskets from the fuel inlet pipe to delivery pipe connection. Keep a suitable container or shop rag below to catch fluids when you gently loosen the union bolt. First leverage a socket to remove two bolts that take the delivery pipe and its 4 injectors out while watching for dropped injectors and separate the 4 insulators from 4 spacers and the 4 injectors. Finally remove the O-ring and grommet from each injector section. Installing each injector requires first fitting a new grommet to each one and thereafter adding gasoline to new O-ring components before conductive placement into delivery pipes through left-right injector rotation. Install the 4 new insulators on their spacers then mount the delivery pipe onto the cylinder head with the 4 injectors while checking rotation until smooth motion occurs; if the injectors are stiff to move replace the O-rings. Prepare the fuel connection between inlet pipe and delivery pipe by installing 2 new gaskets before tightening the union bolt to 29 N.m (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf). Install the fuel return hose and vacuum sensing hose on the fuel pressure regulator before finishing the procedure. For installation of the air cleaner hose with resonator and intake air connector users should first connect the injector connectors before following the procedure of installing new O-rings without reusing old ones while preventing O-ring damage and coating them with spindle oil or gasoline in areas where the delivery pipe or cylinder head meets the injector's O-ring.
