• Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2004 Toyota Sienna?

  A: The thermostat replacement process requires coolant draining followed by removal of the battery then the air cleaner components including cap sub-assy, filter element sub-assy, inlet No.2, case, bracket, inlet No.1, and starter assy. Separately detach the radiator hose outlet and unfasten the water inlet through wire harness clamp removal of bolts and 3 nuts. After removing the thermostat you must install a new one with a gasket which requires proper alignment of the jiggle valve to the upper stud bolt with a 15 degrees variability range. Reposition the water inlet before securing the bolt to 20 Nm (199 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) and the nut to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). The final installation includes the starter assembly combined with air cleaner inlet No.1 and air cleaner bracket followed by air cleaner case and air cleaner inlet No.2 and air cleaner cap sub-assy while adding coolant until checking for engine coolant leaks.
