2005 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2005 Toyota Sienna?
A: The first step to replace the thermostat is draining the coolant followed by removing the battery and air cleaner cap sub-assembly along with the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly then the air cleaner inlet No.2 and air cleaner case followed by the air cleaner bracket and air cleaner inlet No.1 and starter assembly. Begin by disconnecting the radiator hose outlet and continue by removing the water inlet after disconnecting the wire harness clamp then taking out the bolts and 3 nuts. Install the new thermostat with a gasket and pay attention to set the jiggle valve opposite the upper stud bolt between 15 degrees of each prescribed position before reinstallation. The water inlet needs to be reinstalled after tightening the nut to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) and the bolt to 20 Nm (199 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Install the starter assembly followed by air cleaner inlet No.1 before adding the air cleaner bracket to the combination of air cleaner case and air cleaner inlet No.2 and finally the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. To finish the repair process you need to include coolant in the system while also verifying the absence of engine coolant leaks.
