2004 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the knock sensor on 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: Starting the replacement of the knock sensor Requires both fuel system pressure discharge and engine coolant drain procedures. Remove the front wiper arm head cap, both front wiper arms (LH and RH), the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, the windshield wiper motor assembly, the cowl top to cowl brace inner No.1, the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front, the V-bank cover sub-assembly, the air cleaner cap sub-assembly, the emission control valve set, the intake air surge tank, and the intake manifold by disconnecting fuel pipe No. 1, removing the EFI fuel pipe clamp, pinching the tube connector to pull out the fuel pipe, locking the hose clamp, disconnecting the heater water inlet hose B, removing the nut and ground cable, and disconnecting the six fuel injector connectors, followed by removing nine bolts and two nuts in the specified sequence. First remove the engine mounting stay RH by simply unbolting it twice then disconnect the radiator hose inlet followed by removing the reserve tank hose and engine coolant temperature sensor connector before removing the clamp and two bolts and two nuts and two washers to extract the water outlet together with its water bypass hose No. 1. The knock sensor installation requires first removing the two nuts and sensors followed by disconnecting the two connectors. Secure the new knock sensors with two nuts while tightening their torque to 20 N.m (199 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) before attaching the two connectors. Reinstall the water outlet using two fresh gaskets while attaching the water bypass hose No. 1 with its clamp and tightening the two bolts to 15 N.m (153 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf). This will be followed by connecting the engine coolant temperature sensor connector, the radiator reserve tank hose, and the radiator hose inlet. Installation of the nine intake manifold bolts and two nuts requires uniform torque distribution according to the specified sequence before re-torquing water outlet bolts and nuts to 15 N.m (153 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf). Attach the ground cable to 8.4 N.m (86 kgf.cm, 74 in.lbf) torque while reconnecting heater water inlet hose B and then joining fuel pipe No. 1 with a secure click sound before installing the EFI fuel pipe clamp. The procedure ends with reinstallation of the V-bank cover sub-assembly followed by cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front and cowl top to cowl brace inner No.1 and windshield wiper motor assembly together with cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and both front wiper arms before securing the front wiper arm head cap.
