2004 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the oil filter safely and correctly on 2004 Toyota Matrix?
A: You must take safety precautions while replacing the oil filter because used oil can lead to dryness and irritation of the skin and even skin cancer development. Therefore wear protective clothing together with gloves and wash your skin completely with soapy water or use a water-free hand sanitizer. Put used oil and oil filters in disposal stations established for this purpose. The right-hand side engine under cover must be removed for the start before draining engine oil by removing the oil pan drain plug. The oil filter sub-assembly can be removed using Special Service Tool: 09228-06501. Prepare the oil filter installation surface by cleaning it then apply loose engine oil to the new filter gasket before lightly threading it in position until it completes contact with the seat. After fitting the new oil filter with engine oil on its gasket, use Service Tool: 09228-06501 to perform an additional 3/4 turn of tightness. Screw the new gasket-mented oil pan drain plug to its place while tightening it to 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.). Engine oil requires a volume of 3.7 liters (3.9 US qts., 3.3 Imp. qts.) to perform drain and refill operations with oil filter change. The oil drain and refill process without filter replacement requires 3.5 liters (3.7 US qts., 3.1 Imp. qts.) and 4.2 liters (4.4 US qts., 3.7 Imp. qts.) is needed for dry fill only. Check for signs of oil leakage among the final steps.
