2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Start power steering pump service and repair operations with No. 1 engine under cover extraction through six bolt removal then move to No. 2 engine under cover removal with its eight bolts. Proceed to remove the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose by disconnecting the MAF meter connector and hoses and loosening the clamp and detaching 3 bolts. The drive belt tensioner requires counterclockwise rotation to loosen the belt tension before removing the drive belt. The two vacuum hoses can be disconnected through the removal of their 2 clips while the return hose separates after unscrewing its clip. You should first remove the pressure feed tube when you detach its union bolt then install 2 gaskets before proceeding with the PS vane pump assembly removal by taking off the three bolts. Begin PS vane pump assembly installation by fastening its 3 bolts with a torque of 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). When installing the pressure feed tube with new gaskets on both sides torque the union bolt to 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft. lbs.) while confirming that the stopper of the tube contacts the PS vane pump body. Secure the return hose in place using a clip before interconnected both vacuum hoses using the remaining clips. To install the drive belt start by unlatching the belt tension and reposition the belt onto its mounting points. The air cleaner assembly installation requires the trajectory of three bolts together with clamp tightening while attaching the air cleaner hose and reattaching the MAF meter connector. The last step includes reinstalling and bolting engine under covers No. 2 that use 8 bolts then continuing with engine under cover No. 1 and its 6 bolts before conducting power steering system bleeding.
