2004 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering angle sensor on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step when replacing a steering angle sensor requires observing restraint systems service precautions followed by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. You must maintain straight wheel alignment before you disassemble the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly through the use of Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). Start by eliminating the steering column cover and spiral cable sub-assembly and then remove the steering sensor through claw fitting removal of its six connections. Complete the installation of the new steering sensor on the spiral cable by attaching it correctly and examining for any sign of damage to the claw fittings. Secure the center front wheel while mounting the spiral cable sub-assembly in the center of the cable. You will reinstall the steering wheel assembly and horn button assembly after which you should examine the steering wheel center point and the horn button assembly. The procedure ends with reinstallation of the battery negative terminal alongside a verification of the SRS warning light operation.
