2004 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: Is it essential to perform steering angle sensor zero point calibration when replacing the steering angle sensor or ECU, or adjusting the front wheel alignment or steering wheel center point on 2004 Toyota Avalon?
A: You need to run steering angle sensor zero point calibration during replacement of the steering angle sensor or ECU and after adjusting front wheel alignment or steering wheel center point including when installing or removing suspension, axle or steering parts. To start the procedure you must join terminals Ts and CG of DLC3 using Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 and turn the ignition switch ON. A steering wheel assembly requires an off center angle less than plus or minus 3 degrees while building the steering wheel but should aim for the smallest possible value. Press down the VSC OFF switch until the VSC buzzer sound appears then switch the VSC OFF button off. Press the brake pedal three or more times during two seconds then verify the three-second duration of the VSC buzzer sound. The sensor calibration is successful when the VSC buzzer makes noise but it should be repeated if the buzzer fails to sound. The steering angle sensor requires inspection for DTCs if the buzzer fails to sound during the process.
