2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What is the correct procedure for activating and disposing of a front seat outer belt with a seat belt pretensioner using Special Service Tools during scrapping or part removal on 2004 Scion xB?
A: When scrapping vehicles equipped with a seat belt pretensioner or disposing of a front seat outer belt (with seat belt pretensioner), always first activate the seat belt pretensioner using Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 (SRS Air Bag deployment tool) and ensure the battery positive voltage is above 12 V. Check the functioning of Special Service Tool: 09082-00700, 09082-00770, then connect the red clip to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the battery negative (-) terminal, ensuring not to connect the yellow connector to the seat belt pretensioner. The tool should not be utilized if the LED illuminates when the activation button has not been pressed. First disconnect the Special Service Tool from the battery before uninstalling both the pretensioner connector and the battery negative terminal. Disassemble the door scuff plates at both front and rear positions together with the door opening trims and the center pillar garnish. The technician connects the Special Service Tool to the seat belt pretensioner but must avoid locking the secondary lock of the twin lock before moving the tool at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the vehicle. The technician must also close all windows and doors and activate the pretensioner when no one is present inside or within the 10 m (33 ft) area. The disposal process for the outer belt starts with allowing it to cool for at least 30 minutes while wearing gloves along with safety glasses during handling without water exposure to the pretensioner. The vehicle should not be installed during outer belt disposal and this process requires you to cut the retractor end of the belt then use Special Service Tool: 09082-00700, 09082-00770 to check its functionality before connecting the tool to the pretensioner while using a tire and wheel to cover the outer belt while remaining 10 m (33 ft) away from the wheel. The activation process concludes by removing the wheel and Special Service Tool to safely put the outer belt inside a plastic bag before tightly tying it and discarding as regular vehicle parts.
