2004 Scion xB Seat Belt Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the front seat belt on 2004 Scion xB?
A: One should begin the front seat belt replacement process by disconnecting the vehicle's battery negative terminal. The sequence begins with disconnection of the front seat assembly RH then continuation with removal of the front seat inner belt assembly RH followed by the front door scuff plate RH after which the rear door scuff plate RH must be removed. Next follows front door opening trim RH removal before the rear door opening trim RH and center pillar garnish lower RH. The operation to remove the seat belt with the pretensioner from the front seat outer belt assembly RH should not commence before waiting 90 seconds after turning off ignition and disconnecting the battery. The starting point of pretensioner disconnection involves first removing the floor anchor cover followed by removing the floor anchor bolt and outer floor anchor belt and proceeding with the shoulder anchor cover along with its bolt and outer shoulder anchor belt before detaching the pretensioner connector. A complete separation of the outer belt requires removing its two bolts from the retractor side. To proceed remove the anchor adjuster from the front shoulder belt with its bolt attachment. Install the anchor adjuster with the bolt by torquing it to 42 Nm (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Install the front seat outer belt assembly RH and inspect the retractable unit to maintain locking conditions of the ELR and check the belt angle. Torque the two retractor-side bolts of the outer belt so the upper bolt reaches 5.5 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) and the lower one reaches 42 Nm (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Install the pretensioner connector and begin belt installation by securing the shoulder anchor side bolt at 42 Nm, placing the shoulder anchor cover and finally securing the floor anchor side bolt also at 42 Nm while adding the floor anchor cover after that. After fastening the belt and completing installation check the ELR locking mechanism by quickly pulling the belt when finished. Also test that the child restraint system can securely lock in properly. The front seat inner belt assembly RH requires installation through the bolt which needs to be torqued to 42 Nm before connecting both the front seat assembly RH.
