2004 Scion xA Thermostat Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace a thermostat on 2004 Scion xA?
A: The first step for replacing the thermostat requires drain of engine coolant. The next step is to disconnect the water inlet from the cylinder block through removing its two nuts. Install the new thermostat by placing a fresh gasket on it before setting the jiggle valve upward at a 10-degree angle. The jiggle valve requires a 10-degree alignment either to the left or right side. Reinstall the water inlet after applying 9.0 Nm of torque (92 kgf-cm or 80 inch lbs.) yet maintain caution against perserving the gasket between these parts. Instructions to complete the task include adding engine coolant and inspecting the area for fluid leaks.
