The initial step to replace the thermostat requires removal of engine coolant before beginning. The first step is to remove the water inlet by unfastening its 2 nuts then disconnection from the cylinder block. The new thermostat installation begins by placing the new gasket onto it with the jiggle valve in an upward position that needs to be set between 10 degrees on either side. Reinstall the water inlet after tightening it to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) but be sure the gasket remains outside the water inlet and cylinder block area. The procedure ends by adding engine coolant while checking for any fluid leaks.
