2006 Scion xA Thermostat Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Scion xA?
A: As a first step to serve the thermostat you must drain the engine coolant. The first step for servicing the thermostat involves removing the water inlet using 2 nut removal and disconnecting its connection to the cylinder block. Then, remove the thermostat. Install the new gasket to the thermostat before placing the device inside the cylinder block with its jiggle valve pointing up into a 10 degrees range of each indication mark. Reinstall the water inlet onto the cylinder block then tighten its 2 nuts to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) torque while verifying that the gasket remains outside the water inlet to cylinder block space. Complete the repair by pouring engine coolant after checking for fluid leaks from the system.
