- Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2006 Scion xA?A: The service and repair procedure for the water pump begins with draining engine coolant. The service begins by taking off the generator V belt which requires removal of the engine mounting insulator subassembly RH. Apply Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00600) for holding the pump pulley after which you should remove the three bolts and the pulley. Proceed by removing the water pump assembly after breaking loose the three bolts and two nuts then moving on to the water pump along with its gasket. Installation requires a new gasket and a water pump which needs to be fastened with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts at 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.) torque. To install the water pump pulley use Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00600) which enables you to tighten the three bolts to 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). The engine mounting insulator subassembly RH must be reinstalled first then install and correctly adjust the generator V belt. You should add engine coolant then search for all leaks.
