2003 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2003 Toyota Tundra?
A: Set up to work on fuel injectors requires you to remove first the air cleaner hose, then the intake air connector, followed by the fuel pressure regulator followed by disconnecting the fuel inlet pipe. You should place a container under the fuel pipe to catch the oil before continuing. You must eliminate the fuel pipe before disconnecting injector connectors before extraction of delivery pipes and injectors while maintaining their safety to avoid dropping them. The service includes removing delivery pipes and 4 bolts together with injector removal followed by a single step where spacers must be taken out from the intake manifold and injectors from delivery pipes before finally extracting their respective O-rings and grommets. The procedure for installation requires you to fasten the injectors along with delivery pipes by putting new insulators on each injector then applying a thin oil or gasoline coating on two new O-rings before installing. When installing the 6 injectors into the delivery pipes keep turning the injector until it reaches the correct position with the connector facing outward. Install the delivery pipes by putting the 4 spacers on the intake manifold before placing the 6 injectors inside them. During this step temporarily fasten the delivery pipes with 4 bolts to verify the smooth operation of the injectors; if rotating motions are not smooth enough, replace the O-rings. After installation of the fuel pipe with four new gaskets and two union bolts apply torque of 34.3 N.m (350 kgf.cm, 25 ft.lbf) before torquing the four delivery pipes to intake manifold bolts to 13 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf). Install a new foil joint with both gaskets on the fuel inlet pipe before using a clamp bolt and a union bolt to a torque setting of 8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) and tightly applying the union bolt to 34.3 N.m (350 kgf.cm, 25 ft.lbf). The installer must first set the fuel pressure regulator before checking the air assist lines and connections for loose fittings and sharp bends and possible damage before installing both the intake air connector and air cleaner hose. Before adding new O-rings you must inspect them for leaks and approve the practice of using spindle oil or gasoline as coating material while executing installation tasks because engine, gear, and brake fluids are prohibited for this purpose.
